What does Bento mean to Malaysian

I bring bento (packed lunch box) to office quite often. The image of bringing bento to Malaysian is "orang miskin" and responses i always get are
1) Wah, Why so jimat?? wanna save money for airticket to Japan ah?
2) Wah, now qualify to become J wife liao
3) Wah, recently cashflow very tight ar??
Unlike in J, bringing bento is a norm, due to short lunch time and costly lunch eating out everyday. Of course i am not so rajin YET to prepare bento everynight after i get back. My mother pack my bento and i dont want her to feel dissapointed if i say NO. gee.. sometimes i really dont feel like bringing the bento, if i bring bento that means, i will have to stay in the office 9 hours straight.
